Holiday Shopping at Borders with $100 GC-CLOSED

November 15, 2009 1406 comments

Borders has greatly expanded its toy and game offerings in its more than 500 superstores nationwide to include products from leading brands such as Melissa & Doug®, Creativity for Kids®, LEGO Systems, Inc, Playmobil, Scientific Explorer™, Chicco®, Battat®, Blue Orange Games®, ALEX® and many others. The expert buyers at Borders selected many of the toys and games because they play a role in promoting discovery, fostering creativity and helping build cognitive skills in youngsters, all of which are critical to developing good learning and reading habits-and a lifelong love of reading. Importantly, Borders knows that not all customers know what they want to purchase when faced with a variety of toy and game options, so the company is staffing the Children's Department with a dedicated kids' specialist, who can answer questions and make toy, game and book recommendations. (The specialists' hours will vary by store.)

We were recently invited to take a peek at our local Borders location to see the changes that were made. We went as a family and spent over 2 hours reading and playing. Rob and I scoped out the extensive selection of gifts throughout the store and immediately I knew that Borders could easily become someone's One-Stop Shop for the holidays. From music to movies to books to games and even fun finds like cute stationery and arts and crafts kits can be found littered throughout the entire store. It was a bit overwhelming actually because everywhere I turned I saw something new.

We ended up shopping for Shaun and Shae; Up the movie, Dora books, Legos, an adorable Mister Men/Little Miss game and more. We spent close to the $100 gift card that we were supplied and I felt that with the in-store sales going on we did pretty well.

Border's wants you to see the great things they are bringing to the stores. Win one of two $100 gift cards right here at LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! Visit Borders and check out their new Toys and Games section.  Let me know what toys and games you played with as a child and why they would be great for today's youth.

I loved playing with my interactive robot, Alphie II. It was very similar to any other educational toy around now, playing matching and counting games, so it's safe to say that it'd make a nice, current toy as well.

I loved playing with musical instruments as a child. From banging pots and pans. To tambourines to bongos. I think it's great for today's youth to get interested in music it helps them enhance their critical thinking skills and their ability to work together as a team. And the more engaged in school they are the less likely they are to drop out.

Borders doesn't carry any of the toys I played with as a kid but when I was little I had one of those Fisher Price Televisions that you wind up and it plays songs while the picture rolls across the TV screen, I LOVED it! They actually still have it today. I think it makes a great toy for kids because it introduces them to traditional songs for kids (none of this Lady Gaga stuff off the radio!) and keeps them engaged visually as well!

As a kid, I loved playing with a variety of toys...Fisher Price Little People were big with my sisters and I, but one toy I wish I could find for my own kids was my Texas Instruments Speak and Spell. Does anyone remember that? I played with that thing for hours on end and it really helped me with spelling and reading. I wish they still made them. I think it would be a great educational toy for kids today. I know there are Leap Frog, V Tech, games, etc. but that was a really simple cool toy :D
thanks for the chance to win! Borders rocks.

I played outside (gmaes) alot as a child. I remember that the most. I think kids now days have so much toys and video games that there is not enough outside play! I'm guilty of it my kids are in playing too much!

Thanks so much...this would be super fun!

Well I didn't have a lot of toys...my fav was a little duck and mouse I had, which made me use my imagination. (Which I think kids lack today)
